One of the best parts of producing Mail Order Zombie is all the discoveries I make along the way, and in producing Mail Order Zombie #187, I discovered the phrase, "I'm a sandwich, you're my bacon."  Before getting to that point, though, we review the movies Zombie on the Loose (dir. Conrad Brooks) and Cost of the Living: A Rom Zom Com (dir. Daniel Lee White).  Silent Death reports from his bunker with a joint review of the films [REC] 2 (dir. Jaume Balagueró, Paco Plaza) and Quarantine 2 (dir. John Pogue) and Zombie Anarchist sits down with an interview with Scott Hill from Flying Frog Productions (makers of the excellent game Last Night on Earth).  Miss Bren ALMOST gets a taste of some post-apocalyptic excitement at the beginning and at the end of the show.

I'm a sandwich.  You're my bacon.

Brother D takes a short movie-watching-and-reviewing break in Episode 186 of Mail Order Zombie, but that leaves room for a book review from Silent Death when he visits Dust by Joan Frances Turner.  Need-a-Nickname Scott dips his toes into the news with the Zombie Beat, Don Coscarelli tells us a bit about John Dies at the End and we go back to Crypticon Seattle for the panel "Zombies Can’t Run & Vampires Don’t Sparkle: The Psychology of Why We Argue Over What Fictional Things Can Or Can’t Do" with Eloise J. Knapp, Chris Saint, Steve Holetz, and Michael Montoure (with Brother D moderating).  Miss Bren does her best to keep everyone on track during the Feedback Discussion, and the band H2Awesome! swings by with the song "Carl, Stay in the House."

185 episodes into the podcast, and we're FINALLY talking about some Full Moon movies on Mail Order Zombie!  Brother D takes a look at two recent Full Moon releases: The Dead Want Women (dir. Charles Band) and Zombies vs. Strippers (dir. Alex Nicolaou).  D is still haunted by the ghosts of Crypticon Seattle, and to purge those demons, he shares with the MOZ Family interviews with zombie authors Craig DiLouie, Nate D. Burleigh and Lyle Perez-Tinics.  (They're zombie authors in that they write about zombies.  They're not zombies who write . . . at least, not yet.)  And at the end of the show, Miss Bren takes her familiar position as the person who keeps Brother D on track during the Feedback Discussion.

The American Civil War and World War II?  Just add zombies!  This time around, Brother D takes a look at the movies Exit Humanity (dir. John Geddes) and War of the Dead (dir. Marko Mäkilaakso).  The Crypticon coverage continues with mini-interviews with authors Eloise J. Knapp, Peter Clines, and Scott M. Baker, and actress Danielle Harris.  Kim tosses in her thoughts on Knapp's The Undead Situation and Gareth Wood's The Rise, and Miss Bren joins D to talk about their experience at Van Con before diving into the Feedback Discussion.  (Special thanks to Between the Eyes for the opening and closing song!)

Exit Humanity coming to DVD 6/19/12

In the aftermath of the Civil War an unexplained outbreak of the walking dead claims the life of Edward Young’s wife while his son disappears. This sets him off on a harrowing journey into the plagued countryside. Facing off challenges not just from the ferocious undead but also from the living, will Edward (played by Mark Gibson) find an exit to the grotesque caricature of what humanity has become? The War might be over but the fight has just begun.

I'm REALLY looking forward to Exit Humanity (dir. John Geddes) for a few reasons -
  1. Stephen McHattie makes his return to zombie cinema in Exit Humanity. His Dead Letter Award nominated turn in 2008's Pontypool was one of the standouts of that year's crop of zombie films, and I'm eager to see what he does in this film.
  2. Three words - Bill Freakin' Moseley.
  3. I'm a sucker for good zombie stories set during the Civil War.

I'll be reviewing Exit Humanity on this week's episode of Mail Order Zombie, and we have a copy of the Region-1 DVD to give away to a lucky listener! We'll select the winner randomly, and to enter, all you have to do is email your name and address to us at MailOrderZombie@gmail.com by 6/20/12. Good luck!

Four score and a freakshow ago, Mail Order Zombie brought forth two more zombie movie reviews in Episode 183 of Mail Order Zombie.  Brother D visits the sideshow when he reviews Freakshow Apocalypse: The Unholy Sideshow (dir. Matthew Broomfield), then revisits one of his favorite sub-sub-sub-genres: zombie Civil War stores with a review of Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies (dir. Richard Schenkman).  There's more than movie reviews in this MOZ episode, though.  Markus Taylor, the man behind the zombie known as Cheese from the zombie movie DeadHeads (dir. Brett Pierce & Drew T. Pierce), drops by for an interview about his work in DeadHeads, his other projects and the upcoming DeadHeads Cheese prequel.  Devil Dinosaur, Jr., from the Dread Media podcast gives us a review of the novel Ladies Night by Jack Ketchum.  And we start our recounting Seattle Crypticon 2012 when we chat with writers Gareth Wood and Jessica Meigs.  After the Feedback with Miss Bren (which includes a very special announcement!), we have a recording of the panel "Zombies: Why the F@!$ Won't They Die?!" with panelists John Skipp (moderator), Scott Baker, Craig DiLouie, Gareth Wood, Derek M. Koch, Rick Reeves, Mark Rahner.
